The Bible and Homosexuality

At Sola, we recently discussed the topic of the Bible and Homosexuality. I spoke to a room full of students between 6th and 12th grade, along with their parents – below is the audio for the lesson, as well as the follow up Q&A session.

Because of time restraints, I simply was not able to cover all of the material that I prepared. To read the transcripts of the entire lesson I created, follow the links below to read the transcripts:

1. Everyone Needs a Standard

2. Christianity’s Standard

3. Why Christianity’s Standard is Good and Loving

4. What Should A Christian Do if They Experience Same-Sex Attraction

The three books that I reference in my talk are (in order):

Is God Anti-Gay by Sam Allberry

What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality? by Kevin DeYoung

Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert by Rosaria Champagne Butterfield

The questions I answer in the Q&A session are (in order):

  1.  Are you only a homosexual if you act on the sinful desire? (0:56)
  2.  Are you born with homosexual desires? (2:53)
  3.  If you are straight and do not struggle with homosexual desires, is it wrong to support homosexuality? (3:58)
  4.  Do you believe that transgenderism is similar to homosexuality, and would you treat it differently? (6:47)
  5. What should we say to Christians who support homosexuality, and what should we say to Christians who spew hate? (8:38)
  6. How would you respond to a homosexual family member who wanted to stay overnight with their partner in your home? (10:43)
  7. How does one confront a homosexual friend lovingly? (12:48)
  8. How will you respond if as a pastor one day you are asked by two homosexuals to marry them? (15:09)
  9. Can a homosexual person change? (17:36)
  10. If homosexuality is so wrong then why does God allow homosexual desires? It’s like He’s almost setting us up to fail. (19:10)

  12. Matt. 7:1 says that we shouldn’t judge, that we be not judged – shouldn’t we not judge homosexuals? (24:41)
